TO ALL THE
YOUNG WOMEN
IN ENGINEERING

HERE’S 3 RED FLAGS 🚩
TO LOOK OUT FOR
WHEN YOU START
WORKING

3. Sexist “jokes”

They call them jokes. We call them inappropriate comments. Doesn’t matter how “funny” they think it is, it’s still offensive. If you see the entire company culture supports this behaviour, don’t walk, run. You can find better. If you think it can be fixed by you speaking up, then speak up. If not, go work somewhere else. It’s their loss.

2. People quitting frequently

One major red flag is when the turn over rate is high. This means there aren’t many people in the company that have been there for a long time. In most cases, generally speaking, it’s because of a toxic manager or a poor organizational structure. You don’t have to stay and prove you’re strong out of guilt. If you want
to leave too, leave.

1. Party planning duties

I call them party planning duties. If you see they are giving you small chores that are not related to your job just because you’re a woman, know that you don’t HAVE to accept them. Some examples are planning company birthday events, always making reservations, or sending invite
e-mails for events.
